On June 25th, 2016, the professional staff of the MEARS Pop Culture division met with 1970s Filmation Studios Star Jackson Bostwick. Playing the lead role of Captain Marvel on the Saturday morning TV show “Shazam”, our crew traveled to Louisville, KY for a private autograph signing with Captain Marvel.
Filmation Associates was a production company that produced animation and live-action programming for television from 1963 to 1989. Located in Reseda, California, the animation studio was founded in 1962. Filmation’s founders and principal producers were Lou Scheimer, Hal Sutherland and Norm Prescott.
In true super hero form, Mr. Bostwick shared many stories of his life in Hollywood as a living comic book legend.

To add to our ever growing inventory of vintage, authentic, 1970s pop culture items, we negotiated a deal to purchase Jackson Bostwick’s personal supply of 1970s personal appearance photos. With the huge success of the show, Jackson made a series of personal appearances while wearing his screen worn costume, and these were the photos that he gave to his adoring fans.
Mr. Bostwick knew of my penchant for authentic material and after searching his personal archives, met me in Louisville to conduct a deal.

Jackson Bostwick signed each photo in near mint black sharpie. He chose black as that is the color he used in the 1970s and he tried to make them as authentic as possible. Currently, the entire inventory has been added to the permanent collection of the MEARS Pop Culture Division.
